I performed some oxygen measurements with oxygen optodes along the roots of rush species. You can find some of the data in my PhD thesis or in some of my other publications here at my profile. If you like I can send you my MSc Thesis which contains also some data that might be interesting for you as well.

Can you tell us more about your set-up and the species you are investigating? Why don't you want to use intact roots?

Yes, using intact roots in situ would have been an interesting option. By the moment there's no way to move with the set-up I'm using to the field. We are exploring this possibility in the future.

We study wetland macrophytes and started to look for differences between Typha latifolia and Typha angustifolia, both used in treatment wetlands. We selected these species because have long roots without excessive ramifications. The goal of our research is to study the impact of O2 diffusion on selection of microbial communities on the root.

I contacted Prof. Hans Brix and was very helpful on that. He just send me some papers that will help me clarify some of the questions I had. I do indeed liked very much the system you are using in your papers. I got som of them from the web and could see how do you perform experiments. This is for sure far more sophisticated than what I'm using. We work with freshly collected samples, not grown plants in specially designed chambers as you do.
