I saw this phrase in a reviewed article with regard to an optical setup.

Based upon the context clues it either has something to do with heating, statistics, or optics, but I'm more or less at a loss as to what it is after searching through google/asking professors who have been in the field for many years.

The phrase "coherence of dilation" can apparently be checked by checking temperature elevation and using a simple model. Hopefully this helps.
