We bought a new Qubit 4 under two years ago. We've gone through about 650 reactions in that time. Today, the unit failed to turn on. We tried connecting to a computer, using different plugs, etc. to no avail. ThermoFisher told us that the unit is not serviceable and we will need to purchase a brand new unit. Has anyone else run into this issue? Have others gotten a longer lifespan out of their units?
In case anyone else runs into this problem, here is how it turned out:
Our unit was just over a month out of warranty, so Thermo Fisher told us that we would need to buy an entire new unit. The offered us a discount of 10% :(
We talked to our university procurement department, who then reached out to Thermo Fisher. Miraculously, we got a call from Thermo Fisher the next day to inform us that they had made a mistake, and that our unit was still under warranty (it wasn't) and that they would be sending us a new unit free of charge.
So, the moral of the story is, when equipment suppliers are being unreasonable, talk to your procurement folks!
