Plant defense mechanism is important for insect pest control. The nature of leaf thickness, hairiness, etc are important factors to consider for managing pests infestation. I am currently preparing a paper on this topic, but decided to check for information.
Note: Ten okra varieties (including 3 exotic and 7 locals) were investigated to evaluate their characteristic features that enhance resistance to P. uniforma.

I don t have full answer for your question, but I want to give you somewhat a relevant study which compared the levels of pests infestations among different okra cultivars in Sudan. Unfortunately, flea beetle infestation was very low during this study, but interesting results were achieved regarding other pests.
