I have noticed that dengue incidence in Barbados have significantly dropped following the first ever chikungunya epidemic in the country.
Barbados is one of the English speaking Caribbean country. It is an island state with a population of around 275000. It is known to be endemic for dengue.

interesting observation of incereasing coinfection. Unfortunately i just concluded analyzing and writing on a cohort of 200 plus children who presented with symptoms and signs of Chikungunya. unfortunately, as per our guideline samples from all these patients were first screened for dengue and only if negative for dengue they were subjected to chikungunya testing.
may be worth pitching for both testing to be done!
also will check on the aegypti/albopectus ration.
i am also planning to analyze the data on both children and adults for dengue and chikungunya and see what it shows.

good point but as i mentioned above the way the testing was done (dengue first then chikunguny), it is likely to have underestimated chikungunya as it would have missed coinfections.
but as i said, i am gonna analyze the entire population data and see what it shows.

I got the point and also raised my concern on this. I believe that chikungunya was underestimated
Yes Guillermo agreed. Good thing is that the lab hold the serum in all our samples, so i hoping to get the dengue porive samples analyzed for chikungunya.
