Growth of biofilms in the lab is done in two majorly different conditions. One is wherein the nutrients are limited, thus making the bacteria to struggle for nutrients. In response to limited amount of nutrients, bacteria form biofilms. This is true wherein bacteria are known to form biofilms in adverse environmental conditions, like extreme heat or cold temperature.
On the other hand, in certain conditions, bacteria are provided with abundance of nutrients for robust biofilm formation. eg. addition of sheep's blood and sucrose pulsations etc. This mimics the environment in human body eg in the oral cavity..regular intake of food would be attempted to be mimicked by sucrose pulsations. are there any other such concepts in growth of biofilms??
