Our research group is working on a rather large pair of manuscripts summarizing geochemistry from 12 sediment cores from all 5 of the Laurentian Great Lakes. MS1 is a literature summary of metals and oxides that are found in the sediments, and their likely sources. MS2 is the paleo paper, reconstructing ~300 years of geochemical indicators in each lake.

Both manuscripts are much larger than is typically accepted in a journal like the Journal of Great Lakes Research. I'm sure we can ask for exceptions, but figured I would ask if others have ideas about appropriate venues for such a pair of papers. They aren't quite large enough to make a special issue on their own. We have also considered two big chapters in a book, but again I'm not sure of the best venue for such a thing and whether it is a complicated process.

Any input is appreciated!
