For a long time I and many others have been accutely aware that in terms of grant funding there is not a level playing field. This is not deliberate but it is simply because grants (and papers to some extent) are never blindly reviewed (the authors and affiliations removed from the title etc). Clearly this is probably impossible because of all sorts of indicators within the body of grant texts. However I have often wondered if two identical grant applications (or manuscripts) were submitted with different authors and affiliation how they would be judged. Would be interesting I'm sure. Has this ever been tried?
