I want to do a prelimary experiment to quantify the percentage of activated macrophages in mouse spleens during the day/night. Ideally I want to quantify and observe the populations of macrophages in spleen sections via confocal microscopy. Does anyone know of any general markers that are only expressed during macrophage activation? Further, are there any markers that are only expressed in M1 or M2 macrophages? I've seen CD38 and EGR-2 are good for M1/M2 respectively, has anyone used these?
Thanks in advance.
