I want to measure glucose uptake in adipocytes (differentiated from preadipocytes of mice). What is the simplest and cheapest way of going about this? Will glucose clearance from the culture medium (by measuring glucose level at the start and the end of incubation period) be sufficient to start with?
I just want to do something very simple but gives a good insight.

As you have mentioned that you want to study a very simple method, measuring glucose concentration at the start and end of the incubation period should give you some difference. However, that difference would be enough to detect or not is a question. Also, the acceptability of that data is not sure.
I would suggest using a fluorescent glucose moiety like 2-NBDG. It would give you more reliable and reproducible results.

To tell the truth estimation of glucose level may be not the best way since changing in level assume limited availability of glucose. It very possible that Adipocites' metabolism will be affected with these changes.
If you will use small portion (i.e. 1 %) of labeled glucose as was proposed by Swati Asani you will get very good way to estimate glucose uptake by cells. But some new limitation will be introduced: dye retention dynamic, needs for fluorescent reader, washing steps before measurements. In same time during period of monitoring your cell could be supplied with virtually constant level of glucose and it is very good idea.
