Somebody know about the issues with opening the Sentinel 2 images with ENVI. Few images are opening in ENVI and SANP. But ENVI is unable to open the those images most of the cases. Though, many of them we can open with SANP. I read similar issue somewhere and found that it might be due the long name convention of sentinel data. I tried to keep short working directory but still got difficult to open in ENVI. I tried the images downloaded from USGS and Sentinel Open Hub (both sites).

Have you tried to download the Sentinel 2 images here? You can download the GeoTIFF (bands) and metadata files.
Try creating a very simple folder in the "C" (or your main) drive. It could be something like C:\Sentinel2.
Once you have done that, paste the downloaded files inside the folder with simplified short names. Sometimes the filenames are so long that they can't be opened with the software.

Yes, José, I was also thinking same, but still I am unable to open those images. I created a directory like D:/S2A, but when I try to open the XML file in ENVI, it says, there is no valid sentinel files, I am wondering, some are opening again. I mean data with longer name i.e. S2A_OPER_PRD_MSIL1C_PDMC_20160613T000058_R084_V20160612T181447_20160612T181447.SAFE. are opening and data with shorter name beginning with “L1C_T” are not opening. I read somewhere and found that, shorter naming conventions was started after December 2016 and which can not opened by ENVI 5.3 and only opened by 5.4. I think this might be issue.

Judit Rubio Delgado I think best way to open images is use short path directory and use latest version of ENVI. Old version of ENVI may be also problem. Sometimes, from where download the images also matters. Try to download from open hub of sentinel images. Thats all I can say, good luck.
yes unfortunately it is a real problem because the resolution of sentinel 2 is much better than landsat even if you can increase its resolution of the latter
Hello how I can open sentinell2 image in envi 5.3?when I open sentinell xml meta data file envi 5.3 has error
One can simply export as GeoTiff from SNAP and import in ENVI.
However, in the ENVI, it loses its metadata and also the adjusted reflectivity values while the same file, when opened in SNAP, gives the reflectance values in the range of 0-1. Does anyone have the same issue?
