Futures of Global Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chains: How Will City Dwellers in Industrialized Nations Cope with Unpredictable, Large Scale Emergency Situations?
The focus of Global Humanitarian logistics and supply chains has mostly been on conflict zones, emergency situations and post outbreaks or post disaster settings in mostly developing/emerging economies. Unlike elsewhere, the massive populations ‘’cramped’’ in metropolitan spaces in industrialized nations are used to having easy and quick access to food, water and medical supplies at their ‘’door steps’’ on a daily basis. This is so mundane and taken for granted (but everything will change in case of an emergency situation). Little is known (or maybe there is data somewhere) about how many people actually/actively store water, food, first aid medical supplies or other essentials in case of any emergency in densely populated areas.
How much do we know about metropolitan crisis awareness/preparedness since people are used to so much comfort with access to the basics mentioned above? Your thoughts are welcome……
