Functional Polymers for Water Cleaning

Call for Papers

Porous polymeric materials prepared through novel advanced polymer technologies are efficient materials in environmental applications. Functional polymeric materials have wide industrial and environmental applications, particularly in the removal and separation of harmful pollutants from water. For such applications, the preparation of highly porous functionalized polymeric materials using novel advanced polymer technologies is important, in order to obtain highly porous sorbents for water pollutants.

One of the biggest environmental problems is the disposal of improperly treated wastewater generated in many industrial activities such as tanneries, metal plating facilities, and mining operations in water streams. In addition, the mining of uranium ores and their hydrometallurgical processing, as well as the operation of nuclear power plants and disposal of spent nuclear fuel, are potential sources of radioactive pollution of the environment. Moreover, several organic pollutants (such as dyes and pesticides) are discharged into the environment, and additionally wastewater may also contain a considerable amount of valuable ions such as Ag(I), Au(III), and Pt(II).

In view of this, we invite authors to submit original research and review articles that will encourage the continuing efforts to develop innovative polymeric materials for the removal of different pollutants from water resources and wastewater. We would also welcome articles primarily based on R&D directed towards the use of functional polymers for the selective extraction of some radioactive metals, as well as precious elements from aqueous media.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Development and characterization of new porous functionalized polymeric materials
  • Optimization of the synthesis procedure (the influence of the synthesis conditions on the performance of the polymer)
  • Incorporation of different metal oxides in the polymeric matrix
  • Studying the possible application of the optimized prepared polymers in water cleaning which include:
    • Sorption of heavy metals and organic pollutants (dyes, pesticides, phenols, etc.)
    • Selective separation of radionucleotides from radioactive wastewater, spent batteries, industrial manufacturing scarps, byproducts, residue, waste solution, and metal scraps

Authors can submit their manuscripts through the Manuscript Tracking System athttps://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/apt/pcenv/.
