I calculated 'mean pairwise distance (MPD)' as measure for functional and phylogenetic diversity with the 'melodic' function (de Bello et al. 2016). According to the authors, MPD gives you an independent measure from species richness.

Now, I want to determine patterns in functional/phylogenetic structure (clustering or overdispersion). But I am not sure whether the 'standardized effect size (ses)' would be necessary or I simply can assume that low MPD values are indicating clustering.

Thanks,
