I came across ~20 year old whole blood samples in a -20 freezer today (red top Vacutainers and syringes). I was wondering if anyone knew if they could be used for anything. These are very precious samples (in terms of their rarity) and I hate to throw them out if there was a chance they could be analyzed in the future. My understanding is that thawing frozen whole blood results in overall degradation and uselessness. As far as I can tell, these were not processed (e.g. no serum was removed). Thanks in advance!
