In order to get a grip on the discourse of social movements -lets say public statements, political programs, lists of demands- is it better to use a social movements method like framing or an "external" method like discourse analysis? Framing has the advantage that it does connect to other social movement theories like resource mobilization - nevertheless, it doesn't get too deep in the analysis of the actual discourse (for me, at least). What are your experiences on this topic?
