What do you mean by highly crystalline or low crystalline. Normally the term used are single crystalline or polycrystalline. İn general Single crystal have more strength than polycrystal in same material.
i think low crystalline means amorphous ? so the amorphous materials have more strength
Lower crystalline material means smaller grain size and higher grain density, that may enhance the strength.
If you want to differentiate between amorphous (or glass) and crystalline materials then surely crystalline material would show high strength. The glasses can be heat treated to different temperature and time duration, then you can talk about high or low degree of crystallinity within glass matrix. Again high degree of crystallinity is likely to lead to higher strength.
hi, i think that higher crystalline materials has lower mechanical properties because plastic deformation is more difficult in disordered zones which are present in the low crystalline materials.
Interesting, an apparently simple question with contradictory answers. What about equations related with strength?
it all depends on the kind of material; is it a metal, a ceramic, a polymer? defining better what you mean by strength (I guess it's maximum strength) could also be useful in order to obtain a satisfactory answer
