For normalization of western bands the commonly used loading controls are GAPDH, alpha & beta actin, etc. For phospho proteins should we use the same loading controls or the non-phosphorylated form of the concerned protein? For example, to normalize the phosphorylated NF-kB bands is it more appropriate to use the total non-phosphorylated NF-kB as the loading control, or is it okay to use the conventional ones like GAPDH, beta actin, etc.?
