Hello everyone,

Recently, I am trying to simulate the flexural wave relating problems in an infinite (large enough) thin plate at low frequency using COMSOL. Frequency-domain and eigenfrequency calculations are both needed.

Specifically, I want to simulate:

1. The eigenfrequency of a single inclusion in an infinite thin plate.

2. The interaction of the incident plane flexural wave with a single inclusion.

At first, I want to use the plate module; however, it seems the PML cannot be used in this module and the infinite domain cannot be simulated.

Then I used the solid mechanics (3D) instead. However, during the eigenfrequency calculation, the PML seems not working. During the frequency-domain calculation, the PML can not ideally absorb the incident flexural wave as it did for acoustic waves, especially for flexural waves at low frequency (about 100 Hz).

My questions

1. If there are any ways to simulate my problems using the plate module in COMSOL?

2. How to realize the "infinite domain" in my problems?

3. If the performance of PMLs can be improved in the flexural wave problem at low frequency?

I can't appreciate it more if you can help me with this problem.

Regards,

Hao Qiu.
