Is it still worthy,effective and accurate way to depend on a film badge to record and measure the radiation exposure for the medical staff ?
I am asking about the effectiveness and accuracy of using the film badge dosemeters to record and measure the exposure for the medical staff nowadays as it is a very old way, but it cost nothing to make such a system for developing the films and read it by a densitometer
and the only guidelines that I have to implement such a system is the (IAEA) Safety series NO.8 Vienna 1962 but it is a very old one and can't get any other new versions or similar guidelines, so is there any such recent guidelines
Hi, badges are often required by various regulatory bodies,, outside of this requirement, as to whether they are useful depends on a number of situations. IF they are worn properly and consistently, the groups of individuals who work with radiation are very well served to continue to wear them. If a group of medical staff who rarely or only occasionally be in rooms with normal diagnostic levels of radiation then their utility is limited. They generally get no reading on their badge and that may be comforting. Many situations arise, with certain workers benefiting more from realizing they continue to use good work habits.

Although radiation exposure limiting regulatory bodies of every country have their own way of enforcing the practice of "ALARA", however, in my opinion some form of dosimetry is essential to monitor the exposure of radiation worker in the real world.
Agreeably the film badge dosimeter is an easy and inexpensive technique, but is rather old and an outdated technique. Switching over to more current techniques such as TLD (thermo luminescence dosimetry) or OSLD (optical simulated luminesence dosimetry) could be useful.
