A researcher spends a lot of money conducting a study and when the results are out, THEY have to pay to get their work published by a journal. Some Q1 journals can charge up to $6000 to publish 1 paper that you worked on, and then the publisher has some control over reuse of images and other resources. Doesn't it feel that the persons paying and receiving the money should be reversed?
Owolabi Emmanuel Sokefun , not all journals are open access (APC required). A researcher always has the choice to pick the journal in which he wish to publish the work. I have never came across an APC as high as 6000 dollars for one paper but I think there is need to waste this much amount of money in publishing one article. It is better to select another journal in this case.
When you publish close access, it will be more difficult to share and circulate your work with others because not all researchers will be willing to pay the required fees to read your work, unless you're Stephen Hawkins or you have some really groundbreaking research.
