It implies in addition that objects downstairs are, invisibly to above, increased in size by the gravitational redshift factor.
Hence there is no cosmic expansion.
And no Hawking radiation.
And no black-hole chargedness.
And your own hard work being put into the matter is vital for all.

Sorry Otto, but I must protest here... the principle of equivalence is wrong (at least I didn't say nonsense)... but this is by experiment/measurement not possible to discover, however simple brain-activity is able to disclose that fact...
It is maximally original and ingenious.
And it is not at all wrong.
It only contains a single tiny oversight.
But I do appreciate your kind initiation of a discussion about this.
Please read this pamphlet Otto, and then tell me why my arguments are wrong...

Gravitational acceleration is always convergent and always limited in time... it is always pointing at the center of gravity... falling bodies do always feel an increasing force... that Einstein couldn't feel a force acting when he fell doesn't mean no force is acting, it means that HE couldn't feel any force... so what !? Real "lines of fall" are always convergent !!

Things that apparently fall in a spaceship are no longer feeling any accelerating force... until the floor hits them... hence things can't "fall" in a spaceship, but those "apparent" lines of fall are always parallel, but no parallel fall-lines are observable in gravity !!

So we can talk about a certain similarity between the A-lab and G-lab situations... but certainly not about an equivalence (!) ...and thus about nothing maximally original and ingenious.

Dear Otto, according to my understanding there is no evident experimental confirmation of the principle of equivalence. And cannot be. There are theories which reject this principle as universal for full Universe. In particular the models related with two gravitational charges and full gravitational neutrality of Universe based on the L. Shiff hypothesis on gravitational repulsion of particles and antiparticles. Development and application of this hypothesis to cosmology see, e.g., on my page in Research Gate and the respective publications. Another approach in this direction developed by Chardin and his colleagues.
So we should agree that the question is at least actual.
