I'm a university teacher and I'm always coming across the question. Engineering Test: MEASUREMENT OR EVALUATION? This is because some students are measured (0-10) and others graded (A, B, C ...) which is the best option.

Although the evaluation complements, there are marked differences that must be observed. In the measurement, we verify the extent, quantity, mass or degree of intensity of the attributes of some being, comparing such data with a certain greatness, adopted as unit. In the evaluation, we assign value to what is observed according to our purposes. The result of the measurement is a cold number, the same for all examiners - such as the total number of failures in certain vestibular tests or of patents awarded to new drugs during a given period. The result of the evaluation, however, represents a personal taking of position in the face of the data collected in reality (a posture that could in this case be an appreciation of the social implications of school failure or the advance of the pharmaceutical industry).
