Hello! Some Journals mention that they are included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) by Thomson Reuters Web of Science Content. Anybody knows anything about it?
Yes, the journals index in this ESCI will not be issued an impact factor. However, each journal in this new index will be evaluated every year and those qualified will be transferred to SCIE. That's what I heard from Thomson Reuters in the meeting in Bangkok recently.
Dear Ahmad,
I do not know anything called, "Thomson Reuters Web of Science: Emerging Sources Citation Index" in Thomson Reuters. we are acquainted with the following: SCI, SCI Expanded, SSCI and A&HCI.
Best, Atanu
I have found this
" Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), a new Web of Science edition from Thomson Reuters launching at the end of 2015. Journals are identified for inclusion in ESCI based on relevance to a scholarly community, interest to opinion leaders, coverage of emerging fields, and feedback given by Web of Science customers. All ESCI journals are peer reviewed, follow ethical publishing practices, and are searchable, discoverable, and citable. "

Dear Ahmad,
Thank you for the info. The claim has been made by the University of Chicago Press. Let us wait till end of 2015.
EMERGING SOURCES CITATION INDEX
A NEW EDITION OF WEB OF SCIENCE™
COMING NOVEMBER 2015
http://wokinfo.com/media/pdf/S024651_Flyer.pdf
2015 Thomson Reuters S024651/8-15
is that mean that this journal (ESCI) is indexed as "SCI" journal or not?
This should answer your question :)
http://wokinfo.com/media/pdf/S024651_Flyer.pdf
Thomson Reuters seems that wants to make a first step (or a first filter) to analyze what magazines they finally arrive in SCI, SSCI or A&HCI, which are indexes that calculate the impact (not ESCI)
According with Flyer of this materia: "This year, Thomson Reuters is launching the Emerging Sources Citation Index, which will extend the universe of publications in Web of Science to include high-quality, peer-reviewed publications of regional importance and in emerging scientific fields. ESCI will also make content important to funders, key opinion leaders, and evaluators visible in Web of Science even if it has not yet impacted an international audience."
"A journal in ESCI is searchable, discoverable, and citable; authors and researchers get real-time insight into a journal’s citation performance while the content is considered for inclusion in other Web of Science collections. You can measure the contribution of an article in specific disciplines and identify potential collaborators for expanded research."
Is that mean the journals indexed in ESCI will get impact factor of ISI?
Dear Md Asiful Islam and others
Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) will include 3000 journals covering a variety of disciplines. The selection criteria were "Peer-reviewed journals", "Journals that conform to ethical publishing practices", "Content of high interest to a scholarly community (researchers, funding bodies, research administrators, etc.).
Unlike content in the SCIE or SSCI, journals in the ESCI do not receive an impact factor.
It will be launched in November 2015...
So it is very close to see that exciting product of Thomson.
All the best
We are pleased to announce that "Global Journal of Environmental Science and Management" (GJESM) has been accepted for indexing in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science: Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), a new edition of Web of Science™. It seems that journals in ESCI database are now included in WoS
http://wokinfo.com/products_tools/multidisciplinary/esci/
I can confirm that for a journal where I am an editor
https://web.math.pmf.unizg.hr/~duje/rad-wos.pdf
Hi everyone, I'm the editor of the Latin American Journal of Psychological Science (psiencia.org) and just got off a webinar with Thomson Reuters about ESCI. Journals on ESCI are already searchable now, not official list yet for a few days maybe they say. The main difference for ESCI journals is that they don't get IF, nor inCites or statistics from WoS, and their cites wont count towards JCR for indexed journals. So, we are indexed to a certain point. They expect to cover 5000 journals at ESCI within the next months. Journals at ESCI are actively review to enter one of the WoS indexes. Also, these journal can move on, for example to SSI, but if they don't get enough citation they can move them back to ESCI. And appaerently, I couldn't get an straight answer on that, ESCI journal wouldn't be unindexed unless discontinued.
So, good news is that our authors will have their production discoverable through Wos just as any WoS indexed journal. And, if we don't care about IF is just as good as being on JCR.
Big question remains to be how national science agencis will assess ESCI publications, whether they are going to grade them as high as the "main" WoS indexes. Because, ultimately, for most of author in Latin America to decide where to submit their paper, they will look for WoS indexed journals.
Best,
Ezequiel

According to Thomson Reuters, " the Emerging Sources Citation Index, will make journal content discoverable and citable in Web of Science". Coverage will begin with journal content published in 2015.
I feel, getting indexed to ESCI is definitely a step towards getting SCIE indexing.

It is so unusual that there is no word about emerging sources citation index in this fine UNESCO publication Research Evaluation Metrics that is published this year. Hope it will find its place in next edition!
Dear Ljuomic Jacic,
I do not know when you check the metrics....
this index is developed in 2015 and launched in November 2015...
This new index can be found among Web of ScienceTM Core Collection @ webofknowledge.com (Thomson Reuters)..

Yes A. Dujella, there are 2400 journals but impact factors of journals will not be publish.
Wasu is right. I was speaking at the Thai Editors' Day in Bangkok.
The ESCI is an expansion programme meant to index regional/locally important journals into the Web of Science. Thomson Reuters recognises that many researchers publish extensively in local/regional journals which have not yet reached the international standard required by SCIE/SSCI/AHCI. The inclusion of these emerging journals would be meaningful for many researchers worldwide.
The ESCI can be seen as a new citation index meant to help to give emerging journals the platform and exposure to go international and eventually into SCIE/SSCI/AHCI. Previously, there is no such platform and journals do struggle to get the exposure they need. It is hoped that with relaxed criteria for these emerging journals, we can accelerate their progress.
It can be considered as a transition zone between SCI and SCI-expanded indexed journals and the others. The adventage of this index for the journal is that it will help the journals recognition and will ease to step up process for SCI-expanded list as well as Thomson Reuters will have a chance to evaluate journals objectively.

As for whether or not publishing in ESCI journals will fulfil your job requirements for tenure, you will need to consult your academic bosses. There is no guarantee that journals in the ESCI will be selected for coverage in Journal Citation Reports / the AHCI or SSCI. Even if it will be eventually included in the SSCI / AHCI / SCI, it may take a years. In some universities, you will get scolded for 'wasting time' publishing in journals that do not have impact factors. In short, publishing in journals with low impact factors may not get you the promotion but should, at the very least, help you keep your job or rmaintain tenure.
I came to this conversation accidentally, while searching for Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). Recently, I came to know that a journal I edit has been listed in this index. So I was curious to know what people think about it. John Lowe's comment, "In some universities, you will get scolded for 'wasting time' publishing in journals that do not have impact factors" worried me immensely. My friendly advice would be to please leave such universities -- they do not respect you, nor your work! -- DP
http://jrp.icaap.org/
Actually, it's not in my institution where they're fussy about where you publish. It's in my friend's university that's ranked in the world's top 100. Within the journal citation reports in each field, they rank them by impact factor, you really need to get articles in tiers 1 or 2 to be considered eligible for promotion to Associate Professor. It's that elitist!!
Does anyone know the link of Emerging Sources Citation Indexing.
Please send it, I want to know for registering my Journal .
The previous links only mentioned about ESCI. I did not find the link of registration in ESCI.
To submit a journal to be indexed in Web of Science: http://ip-science.thomsonreuters.com/info/journalsubmission2/?x=22&y=16
The team Web of Science, evaluates journals and define whether they will be indexed in ESCI or SCIE.
Speaking about ESCI, we should have in mind the existing research metrics. For young researchers who are not very familiar with different research metrics I do suggest the following.

Dear @J.Q. Gao, ESCI stands for Emerging Sources Citation Index by Thomson Reuters Web of Science Content. See previous answers for more details.
Hi, dose somebody know hot to send the journal for evaluation for ESCI? I did not find any clear information about submiting procedure? I also did not receive any response from TR. Thank you for help and explanations!
Dear Andrew Novikoff,

Dear João,
Thank you a lot! I know this submission form but I thought that there is some independent submission procedure for ESCI. Anyway, I had sent our journal several times using the page providing by you but did not receive any response (not positive nor negative) for last two years. :)
Dear Andrew Novikoff,
The form is this. We submitted our journal and received positive response in two years for indexing in ESCI and evaluation continues for indexing in SCIE.

My regards,
Hi all,
My apologies for a delayed response in officially answering this/these question(s). The Web of Science's newest edition is the Emerging Sources Citation Index. It contains journals from all disciplines and all regions that are currently under evaluation for inclusion in the Web of Science flagship editions.
I am attaching our latest update on ESCI - including a coverage analysis, acceptance rate, and our reasons for creating this index.
Also, below are some helpful quick links that may be worthy of bookmarking about ESCI and our overall journal selection process.

I've seen many new journals in highly-ranked publisher like Elsevier, Springer, MDPI, etc which are indexed in ESCI. If the journal indexed in ESCI will not get an impact factor, so this work is obviously wrong. I think these journals will get an impact factor in the end of 2016.
Does HEC Pakistan recognized ESCI journals? Does it fulfills the requirement for PhD and TTS positions.
It is kind of pre-evaluation room for SCI-E. Here is the link for application: http://ip-science.thomsonreuters.com/info/journalsubmission2/
In November 2015 Thomson Reuters planned to cover 3000 qualified journals through the Master Journal List as Web of Science: ESCI. 2400 journals could be qualified and covered in November 2015 and the rest will be covered gradually during 2016. The journals collection can be found through the link below where my qualified Journal is also shown as:. www.gjesm.net

Thus, I will be pleased to receive the high quality manuscripts for peer reviewing and possible publication completely free cost of processing and publication.

Dear Ahmad Jakalan
I Iran, those of journals that indexed in ESCI and their articles appear in the Thomson routers site are considered as ISI . one of my articles was published in such journal, but the process of indexing of my paper in the site takes a long time, maybe one year.
regards
The journals will get their impact factor only when they move from ESCI to SCIE after 2 years. This move will be done by Thomson Reuters based on the quality of the journals. The quality will depend on so many factors such approach to manuscript review.
If journals indexed in ESCI are called ISI? If you search the name of these journals in
"journal title" site:thomsonreuters.com, you see the name of that journal. However I have some doubts above being these journals indexed in ISI web of science.
Does HEC Pakistan recognized ESCI journals? Does it fulfills the requirement for Associate professor positions.
May I just ask if those indexed in the ESCI last 2015, by how long is its period of coverage for its validity as an indexed journal? Thanks.
ESCI is goood... But... All ESCI journals could not be assessed as Q4.
Try to publish your research in ESCI journal only if it is indexed in SCOPUS and having good publisher.
Recently my paper is accepted in Taylor and Francis Online database and its ESCI, however, i am waiting for its up-gradation to SSCI :)
Recently we have been published at ESCI journal "Modern Journal of Language Teaching Methods" and oooops It has been excluded from ESCI journal list.
As a new index in the Web of Science™ Core Collection, Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) expands the citation universe and reflects the growing global body of science and scholarly activity. ESCI complements the highly selective indexes by providing earlier visibility for sources under evaluation as part of SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI’s rigorous journal selection process. Inclusion in ESCI provides greater discoverability which leads to measurable citations and more transparency in the selection process.
