For electrochemical sensors, the electroactive surface area (ESA) show higher value for the working material as compared to bare (reported in several papers). My bare electrode is FTO and working material which gave good oxidation currents is an oxide. However, I got low ESA value for oxide over bare. what are the reasons for this behavior? Is their any relation for high oxidation/reduction currents and ESA?
