Hello,

I was wondering if there are linear polarizers that can be turned on and off (when in the 'off' state it lets unpolarized white light through and when in the 'on' state it polarizes the light - or vice-versa). I am looking for a non-mechanical switching answer i.e. I don't want the suggestion, "insert a linear polarizer -> then remove it". It needs to be electrically induced, similar to an LC.

To further clarify, something similar to the following article, which allows an initial transparent state then a dark state.

Article Tristate switching of a liquid-crystal cell among initial tr...

So similar to this except 1) the transparent state needs to be 100% transparent - in this article it is just 62.9% and 2) the second state is a linear polarized state - so transmission should be around 50%.

Thank you,

Josh
