I am not an expert in this field so what I am going to write here is just what I think taking myself as an example.

When I do not understand a word, a phrase or a sentence in another language(English) I feel frustated, devastated, very bad indeed. I feel that I do not know anything about the language, so I feel terrible. So I think that there is an influence on our emotional state when we do not understand a word in another language.

I don't know of articles that address what you are looking for. There are articles about the emotional response lay people and allied professionals have to technical and jargon terms in a specific context. In Applied Behaviour Analysis the jargon used by behaviour analysts is very specific and for the most part socially damaging to the industry's public relations. We use English words but the words may as well be foreign because the definitions have entirely different meanings than how they are often used in lay contexts and even in related workplace contexts among other psychologists, allied health and educational professions e.g. PUNISHMENT. Punishment is a strategy used to alter behaviour by specifically removing a conditioned stimulus in order to reliably increase or decrease the likelihood of a specific behaviour occurring again in the future. It is not necessarily aversive, however telling a parent, judge, teacher, speech language therapist or paediatrician that you have a 'punishment' behavioural strategy you would like to use for a 3 year old child's treatment plan would result in quite mixed responses and possibly professional complaints. There are articles published about that.
