I plan to do research on Artificial Intelligence and the Tourism sector and try to show some linkage between the two. Will it be feasible to research during covid times, as the pandemic has caused a decline in the tourism sector?
It depends on your concrete research question and the methods. Unfortunately, it is impossible to answer your question as it is not really clear what exactly you plan.
Yeah it will be very feasible especially now. The Tourism industry now more than ever are turning to AI for many reasons. First for knowing where tourists are willing to travel to and places that are safe among others. This is actually a very good time to do your research
In a way it's a rare opportunity to derive knowledge on tourism during a pandemic as pandemics will (hopefully) not be frequent occurrences in our lifetime. And if they do reoccur your research will be a hit! (A little cheeky, but there's some truth in this:)
It depends on the level of research. For a Phd, it might be problematic as you need to be in the field and most businesses have not re-opened yet. This being said, it depends which country you are targetting, some like China, have re-opened businesses some time ago and actually are at the forefront of using AI, AR and other technology in the Tourism industry as well as the Hospitality industry.
Now for anything lower than that, starting at Master level, you can perform some good secondary research to cover the subject (most universities in the UK kept their Master Research Project unit during lockdown). You can even perform some primary research by finding people to meet for an online interview
Again, it depends. There is a variety of questions out there that can be addressed. This encompasses for examples theoretical questions or ethical questions but you can also do other kind of research. Participatory observation might be influenced in those times.
Surbhi Mahendru, you can carry out research on the impact of Covid-19 on the Tourism sector. Artificial Intelligence emerged as a boon for the tourism and hospitality sector during contactless service, contactless payment.
Hoteliers and Tourism professionals have adopted Artificial intelligence to safeguard their business. How Artificial intelligence has eased the operations with the inclusion of Chatbots on the websites.
Is depending on the site and location of the research because it is more feasible in Africa and other part it than Europe, Asia, America and South America.
Absolutely, it is okay to conduct research on ongoing crises that affect the tourism sector.
Although I am not knowledgeable in the area of artificial intelligence, however, you could look at how the application of artificial intelligence can be used to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in some key tourism subsector, e.g. hotels.
Yes, il's possible. You need to choose a subject that has relation with the impact of pandemic or how to prepare relance by using tic and big data. Make research on web to find out what the consummers need to travel after pandemic, what are their needs......
During Covid times will it be feasible to do research in tourism sector? Yes, in agreement with the majority of the colleagues. A comparative analysis may be a good start.
Surbhi Mahendru doing a research during covid times might be a good idea if it is somewhat WORK FROM HOME types and yes a comparative analysis is always good and it is best to understand the revenue increment of any destination based country and why not ?
Yes of course. The time of the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic is the period during which the impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector can be studied. The basis of this research is the diagnosed large, multifaceted impact of the pandemic on companies and enterprises operating in the tourism services sector and related sectors of the economy.
Secondary data will be easily available. However, it may provide the reliable results, so it is better to compare the latest one with corresponding period in previous times when normalcy prevailed.
