I'm just wondering if benthic foraminifera Gavelinella species extinct during the Cretaceous or not? if so could you please refer some papers, and if not could please also refer some papers?
concerning your question: a few "Cretaceous" representatives of Gavelinella were also reported in early Paleogene strata, e.g. Gavelinella mariae (Early Maastrichtian to Paleocene), Gavelinella pertusa (Late Turonian to Danian) ... You may check for instance Frenzel, P. 2000. Die benthischen Foraminiferen der Rügener Schreibkreide (Unter-Maastricht, NE-Deutschland). Neue Palä̈ontologische Abhandlungen 3: 1–361.
I recently found this :Gavelinella Brotzen, 1942 and Lingulogavelinella Malapris, 1969 (Foraminifera) from the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. I found it very useful for me.
Genus: Gavelinella crossed the K/Pg boundary and continued until the late Paleocene. The extiction of some species (e.g., Gavelinella avnimelechi) is remarked at/ or slightly before the Paleocene- Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) or Benthic Extinction Event (BEE).
please try to refer to:
ALEGRET, L. and ORTIZ, S., 2006. Global extinction event in benthic
foraminifera across the Paleocene/Eocene boundary at the Dababiya
Your question has two aspects, u ask for general information you would know, Or you have some specimens in Paleocene, to be certain in 2nd case, i recommend to take a photo (even with digital camera) that could easily help
