I will show you the very easy way to do Grazing Exit electron microprobe analysis (GE-EPMA) using an ordinary SEM-EDX in a PDF file stored in the linked URL. It is very easy to do and costless. I would be happy if you could be interested in the GE-EPMA and get a good benefit by that.

•A handmade slit of less than 1mm wide was made from a lead plate of 0.4 mm thick and a sticky note (Post-it) (Fig.1). (I bought a lead plate-like sinker at a fishing goods store as the lead plate. It can be easily cut by a cutter knife.)
•The handmade slit was attached to a collimator of an X-ray detector of an SEM-EDX (GENESIS, EDAX) to limit a range of X-ray detection angle. (Fig.2)
•A metallic sample containing inclusions was chemically-etched to make the inclusions project on the sample surface. Then the sample was set on an inclined sample holder. (Fig.3)
•Exit angles of X-ray were adjusted by shifting sample positions along z-axis. (Fig.4) Finally the exit angle was adjusted so as to minimize detection of X-rays emitted from the matrix, and then X-rays emitted from the inclusions were detected.
