In general, grasses have two types of dormancy. First the primary dormancy based on the hormonal balance as soon as the seeds reach the physiological maturity. Next, some grasses, like in species of Brachiaria, have difficulties in the uptake of oxygen because of the presence of the lemma and palea. In my laboratory, all the seeds of grasses have the lemma and palea removed before applying the germination test. The details, however, are out of the current scope. The application of H202 can provide information about the effect of the oxygen. See the literature in my papers attached to the Research Gate, and the literature has available many informations about the weed control in Irrigated Rice.
