The USA is one of the rarest countries of the world where selling and purchasing guns is a common practice and acceptable to most Americans. For a very long time, the repercussions of such a privilege were at a minimum level and the issue was one of the signs of a very democratic society. However, things have changed drastically since then and the world has been witnessing a considerable number of people losing their innocent lives because of love of guns. It seems that we have to look for other ways of advertising our rights to democracy since the newer generations are getting short tempered and less manageable.

The "love" of guns (or lethal weapons) definitely indicates a psychopathic trait. Love is a very intense and positive emotion, and when it is focused on an instrument whose sole purpose is to severely hurt, kill or annihilate another human being, it most certainly reveals the presence of some type of psychopathy.

The love of guns is an important issue to consider. But enhancing and encouraging gun love is also at least as important as it.

Is not it necessary to question the interest forces why the laws that allow individual arming in a country is made or that they encourage or enforce to make of these laws?

It is the ease with which modern weapons kill that is certainly part of the problem. Trump has suggested that teachers carry guns, so perhaps we can assume even more deaths.

So many people are now armed in the USA that those with the predeliction towards such means of demonstration present a virtual state power within a greater power. Any USA leader may believe in stopping guns, rather than, as Trump wishes creating more, they could witness a bloodbath.

Peter, to further add to Farid's posts and your previous comment as well, you said "Love of guns does not make a country psychopathic. Love of money does." This is not true at all. Money is simply a document used for trading purposes and can be used to purchase needs and luxuries. Money is a multipurpose item. Loving money may indicate one is materialistic. Loving guns is totally different, because guns only serve one purpose and only used for one thing=Killing. A person (or people) who has an obsession (love) for guns will certainly score much higher on the Psychopathy Checklist. I am sure of that. Farid pretty much responded to your comment very well.

The USA's approach to gun ownership testifies to a past in which violent conflict became a determinate, the genocide wars against certain Native tribes for example, the violence against slaves. There are other, more positive, strands in the USA but their tendency to employ violence to solve problems, internal and external, is worrying. Again, this tendency does not sum up the USA as a whole. It is a large various and complex society.

I think a love for Guns isn't the isssue, as is Why and what is the motive for the obsession. A psychopath can strap a vest with dynomite and shrapnel and kill several people, happens frequently overseas. If someone who has unresolved anger/imabalanced empathy responses/Trauma or is inherently volatile, then they will use whatever is available ,if they intend harming others. And, of course, Guns are easily available in the USA, so it makes sense that they are the weapon of choice here. Easy access.

Alain, the love of guns is the topic here on this thread, and whether it plays a role in the development of psychopathy in a country. Having a love or obsession with guns is a far different discussion than a discussion about a person who may be inherently volatile and the issue of weapon availability to carry out the means of violence. You are talking something different here. Many people who have an obsession or love of guns may not be physically violent (or have no violent criminal history), yet may measure high in terms of qualifying as a psychopath. Let's not forget, most psychopaths (at least the most intelligent ones) manage to remain below the legal radar, but they always leave a trail of victims in their past (whether financially, emotionally, medically, mentally, or otherwise). We don't have to look any further than some of the Wall Street investors to illustrate this point. Also note that not all people who are violent are psychopaths. But let us try and remain on the topic, which is the question Farid asks in this thread. The question is does the "LOVE" of "GUNS" play a "ROLE" in a making a country "PSYCHOPATHIC"? I'd say a love (obsession) with guns certainly plays an active role and is a contributing factor. America boasts of being a world power and leader, not because of decency, character or morale, but because of her military, and her psychopathic trait of being able to bully the rest of the world.

I appreciate Alain's thoughts as well. I hope I didn't offend anyone in any way. It is not my intentions, for I love a good discussion, for everyone. I respect him. I think a discussion on weapon availability is a great topic to discuss. Farid, I think keeping a discussion structured does not suggest dictatorship, it just helps others learn more effectively. Usually when we veer off a topic we tend to have a scattered discussion and, in my opinion, gain very little from it. I find it always more scientifically and academically satisfying when we remind people of the focus of the discussion. I know research typically generates a necessity for more research, but let's conquer one frontier at a time. Smile.
