Industry developments have made great impact on its energy system. Many studies have shown that there is a significant impact of industrialization on energy intensity, either positively and negatively.

Industrialisation is propelled by mass utilisation of energy and it in turns opens up new energy resources and enhances energy technology. For example, industrial revolution was symbolised by steam engines; modern technology allows harvest of solar energy.

Industrialization is possible when societies have sources of energy or be able to create energy and urbanization is a result of industrialization in most cases.  Without energy source there will not be industrialization and there will not be urbanization. That is why energy development is one of the most important scientific and business endeavors of advanced societies in order  to have a necessity industrialized economy and healthy urban life. 

Energy sources, commonly petroleum based, are key factors for human activities. A great energy demand has been required in the last years to promote industrialization and urbanization (i.e. China and India). In order to reduce their environmental burderns, in terms of energy intensity and greenhouse gas emissions, several scientific studies show alternatives technologies based on renewable energies (i.e. photovoltaic). 

One cannot separate them. First at all, energy is an industrial product. You need more industry for producing more energy, and this is true not only for fossile and atomar energy, but also for the "clean" one (wind, sun, water)... We just need a more intelligent policy in order to bound loss of energy in the consuming industry and in the same time to enlarge the production of  clean energy. However, the industry itself is the biggest consumer of energy, this will always remain a fact.

If you see the energy stats you will observe that energy consumption increases exponentially in a way that is irrelevant to the industrialization or urbanization processes...

The industrial sector, in developed countries, is the largest consumer of energy compared to transportation, commercial, and residential sectors. This necessitates a good research into finding less energy-intensive processes & operations in industries. The chemical industry has been a leader in saving energy & these examples illustrate: i) recycling . ii) recuperators which are heat exchangers that utilize heat energy of a process(which would otherwise be wasted) as a source for another process or operation. iii) multiple-effect evaporators. iv) research in industrial catalysis which aims at reduction of energy requirements for important chemical reactions. It is hoped that other industries follow suit & try earnestly to consume less energy or to utilize a single energy value to multipurposes.

We need to do statistical analysis (with sufficient number of data) to see the effect.

In the attached article (1st and 2nd links), panel regression techniques are used to analyze the effect of industrialization on energy intensity for a panel of 76 developing countries over the period of 1980-2010 . The results indicates that higher industrialization increases energy intensity in both the short-run and the long-run.
