In a seed treatment with combination of fungicide(carbendazim) and bio-control agent(Trichoderma), where first of all the seeds were treated with carbendazim 3gm/kg seeds and after 7-8 hours the same seeds were treated with Trichoderma. Now the question is : does the fungicide used prior to the bio-control agent can affect the bio-control agent ? And what are the concentration thresholds of the fungicides used for combination of seed treatment(fungicide+bio-control agent).
Carbendazim is a very potent fungicide & Trichoderma is a fungus. It is only natural for the fungicide to kill the fungus and any other microbe that stands in its way, be it a biological control agent or not
Peter Etaware is correct in his assessment of potent capacity of Carbendazim as a fungicide.
Trichodermas are very variable and there are strains which can be resistant to Carbendazim and these can be propagated to be compatible to the chemical and biological control.
Carbenazim is ineffective against Pythium and Pythophthora species.
Phosphonic acid is a nonfungicidal chemical that apparently works against Pythiaceous fungi by stimulating the systemic acquired resistance of host plants.
A phosphonic acid, carbendazim, and Carbendazim resistant Trichoderma would be potentially a powerful approach to complementing chemical and biological control for a broad spectrum of fungi.
This depends on several things, the first of which is the strength of the biological resistance factor as well as the quality of the pesticide. Therefore, the pesticide must be tested on the biological resistance factor and then used in the experiment.
