People who earn good grades through their mastery of subjects have developed habits that sustain their desire to learn. Grades do not produce success in life. Character and depth of knowledge provide a willing learner to recognize opportunity, or create opportunity where it is needed.
I perfectly understand your stand point in this subject matter. Success here is in its generic terms i.e. achieving to a higher standard in ones endeavor and living a comfortable life.
No, there is no direct correlation between academic success and life. However, academic excellence has the tendency of creating easy access to certain opportunities in life.
No, not at all - more important than a person's grades are things such as attitude, skills, personality, motivation to reach something in life, willingness to learn.....I really can't see any connection between grades and an advantageous position to succeed in life.
Achieving good grades is only very important in helping you to secure a job however, your effectiveness on the job will be based on how well you are able to translate the acquired grades into practical skills. no wounder most companies look out for people with working experience before employing them.
I agree most with Isaac above. Grades do give entre and opportunity. But not every “A” student has great communication skills, good time management, a keen sense of how to effectively manage human relationships in the workplace, or teamwork, compromise or supervision skills. I believe that in the US, we need to design our public schools such that every student upon graduation HAS already had multiple teamed project experiences, leadership, and supervision skills. Schools that combine STEM, PBL, and SEL are therefore my recommendation for any district that want its graduates to be fully prepared for future success. This includes in life, not just in jobs.
