No. Do not use EDS (EDAX is a company name) for analysis of bulk specimens, there are other, much better for the task methods.
In addition carbon is a common contaminant in a SEM.
If you are using Carbon tape to attach your sample to it, it will definitely not give you the correct results. But if you can find another tape, yes it can give you an estimation which depending on your detectors quality and resolution, you can reach to a value with an error 0.5 percent.
Wrong. Carbon tape is a secondary source of C contamination, not really important one. And 0.5% accuracy for C? What are you talking about?
