There is a dependency between particle size and atmospheric optical depth.

Atmospheric optical depth is the measurements of integration of extinction from surface to height (z). Extinction is absorption + scattering. These entities depends on particle size, chemical composition and their mixing states.

In which particle size affects more followed by chemical composition.

Now there are already tools available using what you can actually study size dependent Rayleigh scattering and Mie scattering.

I am already working on Mie scattering which is mostly about how Mie particles or aerosol in my case affect extinction.actually, I am doing reverse. I am trying to get particle size from extinction measurements. I am using Mie code in inverse way to get this.

Mie code will help you to find the sensitivity of extinction or scattering efficiency to particle size.
