During literature review, I have noticed that many papers under the umbrella of software engineering use Java when code examples or small demonstrations are appropriate. I understand that Java is pretty ubiquitous, but is it the de facto programming language for SWE academia? Can I demonstrate something in a language whose syntax I believe illustrates my point better?
The quicker version of this question: Will my paper lose credibility if it shows examples in C# rather than Java?
Use pseudo code instead of explaining in a specific programming language.
I agree with Asiri Hewage, pseudo-code in a paper(s) is very much acceptable and common...
The paper will not lose credibility, but it becomes more readable with the idea being described, in the latter case, I show code. But it depends a lot on the focus the paper is writing.
I think using pseudo code is a good option but if you're interested in explaining your code in some programming language then it's better to share the link of your repository on GitHub that contains that specific code.
I have used pseudocode in some articles, because it is more understandable for all people.
I think pseudo code is suitable with algorithm steps to explain and describe research idea.
