I am depositing ceramic based inks onto a dense polycrystalline alumina substrate and I cannot find in the literature a value for its surface energy.
It would greatly help me to estimate the wettability of my inks.

Some years ago, I have measured the surface energy of sintered rhombohedral (trigonal) α-Al2O3 according to the Owens-Wendt-Rabel-Kaelble (OWKR) method. Here, the surface energy was 42.02 mJ/m² (with a quite low polarity of 0.09, i.e. the ratio of the polar fraction and the total surface energy) [see: http://ceramic-science.com/articles/all-articles.html?article_id=100226]. As surface energy and wettability depend on so many factors (surface morphology etc) I'd be inclined to measure my surface energy myself (using contact angle) rather than rely on literature values. If you have the appropriate drop shape analysis equipment it is very quick to do.
