In many occasions the full text of an article is available in the journal website, however some researchers request the full text from the author. Is it necessary , from ethical point of view, to respond to such request
At times, the person who requested may not be able to obtain the article, especially if the article requires payment. On RG, I got to know several researchers who do not have a research grant, and we do send requests to authors to ask for their article.
I believe that journals allow authors to keep an author copy to serve such a purpose, making it ethical. Of course, if the article is in an open access journal, we can get it free. If another researcher asks for the paper, it's likely that it's needed for citation purposes, and this benefits the author of the article too. Thanks.
