I am an orthodontist having immense interest and published work in fields of mediators in GCF, rugae pattern, forensic odontology that are not directly related to my field of specialty. I feel a scientific bent of mind can lead to enhancement of knowledge in any sphere. I fact it would be beneficial to have different views from multiple disciplines on a particular topic to fill the gaps. An article published in 2015 states that more number of orthodontists have published articles in forensic field than oral pathologists, which I believe is a thumbs up for science.
I welcome informal views and comments on this particular thought….

The word "science" comes from the Latin word "scientia" meaning knowledge. Man has always tried to quantify and fragment science for his own convenience. But this division has lead for his myopic vision about few branches of science and also narrow knowledge which does not allow thinking beyond the barriers of formal training.
Forensic dentistry, Implantology, lasers, cleft lip/palate diagnosis and rehab etc are very much part of dentistry but cant be claimed by any particular branch of dentistry. Multidisciplinary approaches are required, where scientific concerns are treated at a common platform rather than narrow partitioned approach.
Lastly talking about my branch ie Oral Pathology… I would like to add here..
Since more articles are being published by orthodontist in field of forensic odontology.. just highlights the fact that OP ppl need to buckle up n work harder … for start I guess.. we divert our research and resources towards studies in brackets wires and elastics ;)
Thank you Dr Aman for supporting the cause of science with philosophy...I too feel that knowledge in any stream should open our thinking rather than narrowing and restricting our outlook.
