Solution processed OLEDs are still very challenging to be commercialised due to the production yield and defect issues, which also apply for solution processed perovskite LEDs besides the current problem of stability as Harikesh P C mentioned. In addition, the toxicity of perovskite materials could be another big concerned. It may take very long time to commercialise!
Thank you for your reply! In this case both perovskite LED and OLED are hard to commercialized because they are made by solution process. Does solution process solar cell also hard to be commercialized?
Here we talk about less than micrometer thick devices including OLEDs, QLEDs and perovvskite LEDs. If the electronic devices such as solution processed thin film solar cells have thicker than micronmeter, the situation is very different! You may see some commercial products in the market.
I believe the fact that thin film solar cells are now compatible with solution processing is a big step forward to commercializing the technology. Solution processing is not only cheaper and carries the potential of much higher process throughputs, but also potentially much more environmentally friendly due to the considerably less manufacturing energy needed when compared with Vacuum-based techniques like PVD or CVD.
Yet, as Chieh-Ting, indicated the challenge of defect issues is real. Therefore, the research community should be more invested in tackling the manufacturing side of cell processing to perfect aspects like nucleation, crystal growth in ways familiar with industry standards. Only then, we can see a rapid domication of perovskite technology.
In scientific ways answer for your question is debate topic now a days in scientific community. Recently many research articles and prospectives are published in reputated journals about the possibility to commercialize the perovskite devices. There is no doublt that perovskite has exellent optoelectronic properties and device performane. But here question is about commercializatio.
For the commercialization, there are requred 4 main points;
1. Availability of raw mateial and bulk production
2. Price and demond of the material
3. Stability of device
4.Environmental friendly
So incase of perovskie first 2 points are fullfill but next two points are not suitable.
So in my openion without good stability and less toxic perovskite materisl, it is very difficult to commercialize perovskite devices.
