Semi-active property of MR fluid is an advantage and how to realize it for different systems is important to find new applications.
Dear Prof. Selim Sivrioglu
There are many applications for the MR fluid, some of which are considered as damper, such as:
1- Car Suspension
2- Seat Suspension
3- Seismic Protection of Buildings
4- Cable Stayed Bridges
5- Washing Machine
6 -Prosthetic Knee
7- Artificial Muscles
And some other applications that you consider other than the damper, including
1- Hydraulic Valves
2- Brakes and Clutches
3- Polishing Devices
4- MR Fluid as a Robot Blood
5- MR Fluid as a Gun Recoil Protection
You can find an overview of all the applications mentioned in the published paper

Thank you very much for your valuable response Dr. Zakaria.
The simple answer is yes. MR dampers were used to control wind/rain induced vibration with the Franjo Tudjman Bridge (Cable stayed) in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Thank you very much Dr. Ancich.
