I am currently conducting a research study on the integration of Generative AI (Gen-AI) tools in art and design education, and would greatly appreciate your insights:

My target participants are undergraduate art and design students from universities in Southwest China, and my focus is on their acceptance and behavioral intention to use visual Gen-AI tools, such as Midjourney, DALL·E, Runway, and Stable Diffusion.

However, in my literature review, I found that most studies applying UTAUT or TAM models focus primarily on text-based tools like ChatGPT, with little discussion around visual generation platforms.

I would love to ask:

  • Are there any recommended papers or studies specifically examining acceptance models for visual-based Gen-AI tools?
  • When building my model, is it appropriate to extend the UTAUT2 framework by incorporating additional variables like Cultural Embeddedness, Aesthetic Trust, or Tool Intuitiveness, which may be more relevant to visual design users?
  • If I focus on one tool, Midjourney, should I separate them from visual generation tools, or can I investigate them as visual generation tools (categories)?
  • I'm very interested in hearing perspectives from those working in educational technology, design studies, communication, or psychology. Thanks so much in advance! 🙏
