As well known,metformin now has so many good effect for human,and even ,it could cure cancer,it could lead the tumor cell to death via the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway,for example,as the ampk-p53 pahway.Everyone now regard metformin as a all-powerful drug,but I want to know,when the metformin be used as an anti-tumor drug,could it also do harm to the normal cells,as the cardiac myocytes?
Metformin has several pleiotropic effects, especially related to cancer. Contrariwise, Treatments enhancing cardiac autophagy may prevent diabetic cardiomyopathy and metformin Improvement of Cardiac Functions, decreased AMPK activity and subsequent reduction in cardiac autophagy are important events in the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy. Chronic AMPK activation by metformin prevents cardiomyopathy by upregulating autophagy activity in diabetic mice.
