Many authors write in the limitation section that:
"The research finding may not reflect the actual responses of the participants because it seen from the perspective of children". Does it mean that children can't express themselves well?
In my work, I find that children can, indeed respond logically to concrete questions. Even children as young as 3 years of age can verbalize their thoughts and feelings.

Mosaic Approach is used to study with children's.l.. kids have their own perspective, they see things different.. its necessary to explore their thoughts. this technique include picture description, mapping, drawing, photography and different interviews with them and also with their caretakers, teachers or others surrounding around their circle. children do express themselves but limitation in each study have specific purpose too... but you can explore any research with kids too.. it all depend on your area of interest i guess :)
I would like to know more about what is meant by "well" in this phrase. Does well mean "in an adult-like manner"? Or "in a manner understood by the researcher"? In therapy, we sometimes say that a patient does not possess psychological thought. And my question then would be, is this the patient's or the therapist's problem?

Everyone can express themselves, if they can not do so verbally they will do so behaviorally. Every behavior and action is an attempt at expression, the messages are very clear if you are really paying attention.
I think, if "express themselves well" means, that their message is understood, then it is a matter of skills, experiences and relations of the child on the one hand and a matter of attitude, interest and effort of the one who tries to understand on the other hand
I think it is because children change their response with time what they value now next minute its not useful to them. they are carried away by their ego.
