The Visual Perspective Taking task requires the participants to figure out which item on the shelf the "director" was referring to. Someone asked me about the psychometric properties of the task, and I have not found much literature that has reported its validity (content, criterion, etc.). Indeed, many studies used the task as a measure for VPT capacity, but can we ever calculate validity for it?

VPT is a task requiring subjective response from the participants, in a sense it's an open ended task that is difficult to validate. However, a longitudinal study on a very large sample can be tried for the purpose. Anyway kindly keep updating on your work.

I wouldn't use it as a psychometric test, in part because the task typically relies on error data but tends to produce close-to-ceiling accuracy (at least in my work), but also because we do not actually know the process by which participants solve the task. We ask participants to take a director's perspective, so however participants arrive at their response could be the way they do so when they take actual (real) people's perspectives, but it need not be the only way. Note also that their is too strong a linguistic component to the task to be a 'pure' visual perspective-taking task. All in all, I'd say it's a guide to visual perspective-taking abilities rather than a fine-tuned measure of it. Idalmis Santiesteban, Cecilia Heyes and Paula Rubio-Fernandez are good people to read on such matters.
