I did inject STZ at 60 mg/kg bw and it's glucose levels has increased up to 533 mg/dl. When i initially started before injection of STZ its weight was around 155 g and its 2 weeks almost the weight is 187 g. Please help me with your valuable suggestion. As when i did my earlier experiments all it used to get reduced i now have no clue to why its weight has increased.
What was the age of the rat when you have started the experiment? The weight will increase gradually if the rats were young. According to my knowledge, considering that your rats were about 150g I assume they have not reached a level of maturity and they are in their growth stage.
Injection of STZ will induce type 1 diabetes none related to weight increase.
Your weight increase is surely due to rat development and that's you have to have untreated group so you will be fixed if it is due to STZ or not.

I have an untreated group and its weight is also increasing at a high rate. These suggestions gives me a new dimension. Comparing controls increase is less in treated ones...
It could be due to hyperphagia as they eat more after STZ injection. When you measure body weight, you have to be very careful in interpreting data and time of measurement is also very important. Some time it can be misleading due food present in stomach. Usually STZ rat should show decrease in body weight with Hyperphagia and severe hyperglycemia.
In the past I did some experiments in STZ-treated adult (3-4-mo) old rats, but I did not observe some growth above that in untreated animals. As already indicated by others, the rats were quite young and in the growing stage. The only test for your question is to follow the growth of untreated and STZ-treated animals of the same age. In spite of having enhanced appetite, the treated (diabetic) rats should grow slower than the untreated once. Best wishes, Ivan
Hi arun, STZ induction not increase the weight. if you interested to study weight gaining rate between the control STZ better you can feed HFD or Western diet at least 10 weeks. it will give better interpretation.
Hi Arun, From my past experience STZ does not increase weight gain.
Do you Compare with your control rat? what is the delta mean value day of injection and after 14days. Have you took Age, Weight and gender matched rats. If not try with littermates. Age of the rat also matters.
STZ rats -hyperphagy, you can do onething Fast the animals for 6hrs not more than that Since those are Type-I and check weight. If those STZ rats seems hypoactive then give some glucose solution orally and give normal water equal amount to control rats (to reduce mortality during fasting b.wt. check).
Now you check probably you wont get significant difference.
