Technology for teaching and learning is needed if we are to reach a broader audience. But, does technology integration actually allows teachers to be empowered?
Technology can do wonders to the teaching/learning process if it integrated in appropriate ways.
Of course, the administration has to take the decision about the integration after consulting experts on how can this be done in an optimal manner.
In some 3rd world universities, the institution consists of the 3 known parts: the administrative sector, the academic sector, and the students’ union or societies. After observing these universities for a long time, I found that there has been a deliberate effort to weaken the academic part to the furthest point. The other 2 parts are stronger with the administrative taking the lead.
Therefore, it is a taboo to talk about empowering teachers by technology. If the “big brothers” are told that upon integrating technology in education, there will be an increase in the financial input as well as converting the teachers into working machines… then the administrations will welcome the idea!
This may sound as a gloomy picture but it is a real honest one without naming names.
Empowering teachers is one of the viable and efficient ways of enhancing their personal development in the delivery of teaching and learning services.
Teaching instructors through seminars and workshops on how to use technological devices that promote the teaching and learning processes can have a great toll on the financial costs for the putting up of the infrastructural resources as well as the training costs on the managerial board of educational institutions, yet, their merits on teachers' empowerment are great.
It will be worth the 'sacrifices' since it will improve massively the instructional methods used by an instructor while broadening his/her repertoire of options regarding every aspect of the teaching and learning process especially well-enhanced forms of conducting students' assessments that reveal their learning outcomes.
Every individual in workplace need to be empowered to achieve his or her tasks. Yes, access to resources (e.g., material & technology), access to information, and access to support represent important instrumental empowerment means. But what is more important is to make teacher psychological empowered.
Hello Nizar Matar · An-Najah National University, Dickson Adom · Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science and Technology, Mustafa Jwaifell · Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, Gehan Selim · Queen's University Belfast, and Amer Ali Al-Atwi · Al Muthanna University:
I have read and enjoyed each response concerning my question “Does Integrating technology as a tool for teacher empowerment really works?” So far, I have been researching the teacher empowerment in and out of the classroom for a couple of months. Each of your responses has been of much help and I have been able to discern the challenges many EFL teachers encounter in other parts of the world. Technology use has become an essential part of the increase in education access globally.
In today’s TESOL online classrooms, we have discovered that distant learning experience is enhanced by technology. In today’s education classrooms, whether on-site or online, modern technology offers many advantages over the traditional classroom approach because technology offers distant classrooms with the delivery and design of enhanced programs. As an example, L2 learners can take advantage of mobile technologies’ use, these technologies include tablets, laptops, and smartphones due to their portability, flexibility, and access to class materials in increasing ways, allowing the student to gain improved control over their learning process (Rogerson-Revell, et al. 2012).
This, in turn, offers teachers in general, and specifically EFL teachers, with empowering tools aiding in their personal and professional goals to deliver the best education approaches to all students, especially those learning English as a foreign language. The fast changes in technology have been a key transforming individuals’ lives across different disciplines. “When teachers are not given a say (empowered) in how the technology might reshape schools, computers are merely souped-up typewriters and classrooms continue to run much as they did a generation ago” (Cuban, 2003).
Therefore, teachers might use the tools available to them to enhance students’ education, this empowerment allows teachers to design classes and classroom technology integration to benefit not only the students, but also the school, the staff, administration, and community at large. Technology has also changed It also has changed underlying forces in life’s many aspects. Nowadays education is taking advantage of the benefits that web-based and media offer in advancing education through the Internet. Many teachers, educators, and education professionals see this as an empowering advantage to teach English to speakers of other languages, especially EFL teachers who are in different parts of the world.
The management of an organization should encourage technology for teaching learning process. Teaching Learning with technology will help students to great extent and this can be useful for students in a big way.
Technology is beneficial to learning and teaching. As to whether it empowers teachers, it is hard to say. Sometimes, it seems to empower students more. It gives students greater chances of learning at their own pace.
Thank you for your responses, although the technology for teaching and learning enhances an organization’s management, it does not do anything positive unless it's conveyed to teachers, especially EFL teachers. Then, teachers can empower students to take charge of their education at their own pace.
Technology does empower teachers whom in turn, use technology to provide students the guidance on how and when to use this technology. In addition, technology aids in the teaching-learning long distance, which is an added positive value for teaching.
Technological techniques represents the main support for teachers in educational contexts. It has the ability to empower both teacher and students during the insertion of new emotions in class such as suspension, enthusiasm, autonomy, collaboration, ..........
Technology integration, once properly utilized, can empower teachers. It aids in the teaching-learning process, guides teachers to innovate materials for teaching and gives them broader perspective of how technology can enhance content and pedagogy.
technology integration such a big opportunity for teachers to be empowered. Without ignoring the importances of interaction , the technology will be more impacted for them and their student to build the social cultural situation in teaching learning. The content that has been innovated will be more meaningfull for them.
