One of the key interventions related to the success in South Korea is mass testing. That's what every country dealing with SARS-CoV-2 is planning in order to get a better understanding on virus circulation. You simply can not fight what you don't see. Thus, countries need to test as much as they can, especially in individuals with respiratory symptoms

Mass testing is not feasible in developing countries looking at the laboratory facilities; but at least testing for all contacts and ILI like illnesses is to be done.

Thanks Malangori mam for your views. Yes it's difficult but not impossible to test all. Plus the ones with mild symptoms or subclinical cases will be more potential spreader of the disease than the ones already diagnosed. So in turn they will lead to more cases to be tested. And if we will diagnose them initially by mass testing than it will lead to less cases overall. Now which one will be cost effective lateron?

Of course no. It is not necessary to test all people with flu-like symptoms. And in a big population such as of India, this is totally impractical

It is known that covid is particularly dangerous to people above 60 years.

So, it should be recommended to test:

a) all the patients with flu-like symptoms above 50 years

b) any patient with a severe respiratory disease that the doctor indicates covid testing as for a diagnosis.

And why? Because if we know how many people over 50 years were diagnosed today, we can infer the need of ICU beds in the next days.

Just going testing everybody will give the information we already have: that the virus is circulating among population.

I think mass testing is essential in every country to find out who is infected so that they can be isolated from their families and friends and receive prompt treatments.
